Ronald L. Young, II, MD
Ronald L. Young, II, M.D., is a board-certified neurosurgeon who focuses his practice on brain tumors, hydrocephalus and minimally invasive brain surgery, as well as cervical spine and spinal cord tumor surgery. A Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Young brings more than 27 years of experience to treating patients at the Brain and Spine Center South Florida.
"My patients have always become part of my neurosurgical family, and I have stayed in close touch with them for many years," says Dr. Young, who was a neurotrauma surgeon affiliated with Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Indiana before moving to Palm Beach County with his wife and four children.
Dr. Young was listed as one of the top neurosurgeons in the Indianapolis area for eight of the last 10 years and was twice recognized as one of the top innovators in medicine in the Indianapolis area. He is a consultant with Synaptive Medical, a Toronto company that is heavily involved in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He is also one of the founding members of the Subcortical Surgery Group, a peer group of neurosurgeons pushing the boundaries of minimally invasive intracranial surgery.
A member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Congress of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Young has published more than 20 professional papers, taught courses for other physicians, and presented on topics ranging from cysts in children to congenital brain lesions, spasticity and movement disorders, and concussions in athletes. He has spoken at national and international conferences, including medical educational events at University of New South Wales in Australia and the World Congress of Hydrocephalus in New Zealand.
Dr. Young earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. During his career, he served as Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Chair of Cooperative Brain Tumor Conference at Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, and was formerly assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas-Houston.
Dr. Young enjoys karate, downhill skiing, road biking and tennis.
